My turn in the barrel…

So I got great news this past Friday morning….I had been trying to change the name on an airline ticket from Richard to Jane so that my mom-in-law could join Jonathan and I in Atlanta, GA to see the King Tut exhibit.  US Airways graciously agreed (after some fanangling involving a notary public on our part) to change the name on the airline ticket for free!!  Even though it was difficult, that was still wonderful news! Amy Stirnkorb and Julie Knowles

So I drove down to the Coffee Bean in Mission Valley today to meet with Leigh Fenly, Amy Zimmerman and Amy Stinkorb to discuss the re-design of the Women’s Empowerment International website.  We’re all excited to see how it will evolve!

What I’m really excited about is the start of a working relationship with Amy Stirnkorb who is a graphics designer!  While we were there, she asked if I’d be interested in working with her.  She has to turn down jobs for websites because she doesn’t know how to do the back end.  Now we can partner up with her on the front end and me on the back end….YAY!!

In Celebration of Sam

Today the family and friends of Hilburne “Sam” Earle Knowles celebrated his life with a graveside military service held at 10:00am (Greenwood Memorial Park) and a funeral service held at 2:00pm (Light of the Valley Church).

Both services were very well done. The number of friends who showed up in support was amazing and a true testament to who Sam was as a person.  He was well-known in the community as a handyman and his daughters Joy and Carol had inscribed on the urn “That’s okay, my Daddy can fix it”.

Happy New Year – 2009

Well it’s a new year….2009.  We didn’t do anything special last night and I didn’t stay up to see the ball drop in Times Square.  The three of us did watch a PBS Nova special on “Is There Life on Mars?” which was pretty interesting and then I put Jonathan to bed around 10pm.

One of the questions on the radio recently has been “What do you want to throw away from 2008?” and I’m sitting here wondering what’s going to happen in 2009?  Losing my dad-in-law has been a shock to me in so many ways and dealing with his health in 2008 was a new experience for me.  Maybe it was all preparation for what I’ll be going through this year with my family?
