Update on Sam, Week 3

Hello to all. I am typing this for my Mom as she is laid up in bed with a broken ankle. She has received many emails asking for an update on my Dad (Sam). Week 3 went well. Sam got medication for his swallowing problem but is still drinking those milkshakes he so loves. His blood counts are good but most of all his spirit is strong and his sense of humor has never been more apparent. His energy level is still high.

Now for my Mom. For those of you that don’t know, she broke her ankle playing golf with “Couples” last Thursday. Only two holes left to go (and a good game to boot) and she stepped in a hole. She broke the same ankle 3 years ago at the US Open. This time she broke two bones, the one on the inside and the outside. She had surgery and now has a plate and many pins to hold her ankle together. Surgery went well and she is now on bed rest for several days. How lucky for her that my Dad is such a great nurse!! She wants you all to know that she is not is any pain and the swelling is nothing like last time.

Most of all, my Mom would like to thank all of you for your prayers, calls, cards and offers to help with any need she and my Dad may have. Special thanks for the offers of transportation for Sam if needed.

As Sam and Jane’s daughter, Joy, I would like to add that I am so thankful that my parents have so many wonderful, caring friends. They live in community that shows what it means to be a great neighbor and friend. Bless you all.
