The Ajax Experience 2008, Day One

So I need to make another note to myself….don’t even take a red-eye and arrive in town the morning of a conference.  :-/  I lasted until 10:30am and then I had to go upstairs and take a nap.  I could not keep my eyes open any longer!

I attended the morning Ajaxian Framework Summit on Dojo and I’m really interested in learning more about it now.  I’ve never used frameworks before and I’d like to play around with them and see what they have to offer. Then I napped….then I ate….props to the Renaissance Boston Waterfront Hotel too.  The food they served today at the conference was excellent!!

The afternoon was filled with keynotes on The Ajax Universe and Google Chrome and Web Applications.  I must say that the keynote by Ajaxian.com co-founders, Ben Galbraith and Dion Almaer, was probably the most entertaining keynote I have ever heard.  The introduced the Presentation Randomizer that they coded up right before the conference started.  It buzzed at random intervals every 10-120 seconds and each time it buzzed, whomever was talking had to stop and the other had to pick up where the previous guy had left off.  They both did a fabulous job and it kept the presentation very lively!!  The Google Chrome keynote was interesting as well to hear a little bit of the ideas behind Google Chrome and where they hope to take it in the future.

After a brief refreshment break, the infamous PPK hosted a keynote panel discussion featuring representatives of four major JavaScript frameworks: Prototype (Andrew Dupont), Dojo (Dylan Schiemann), YUI (Christian Heilmann), and jQuery (John Resig).  That was entertaining as well and turned into a discussion on what browsers the different frameworks support and when they would remove support for IE 6.

After the sessions were over, I scampered back up to my room to avoid the cocktail party.  I started the Atkins diet recently and didn’t want to be tempted by alcohol.  I had a nice dinner in the hotel’s restaurant alone and now I’m back up in my room and going to head to bed and get some sleep….goodnight!!
